Efraín Mojica is a photographer, filmmaker, and multidisciplinary artist from Michoacán, based in Mexico City. Their work has been presented internationally at institutions and galleries including Kunstverein Neukölln and MZ Galleries in Berlin, Magia Roja in Barcelona, The Factory in Seattle, and most recently Museo Tlatelolco in Mexico City.

Moving fluidly between photography, performance, and moving image, Mojica’s practice is rooted in conceptual art and examines the translation of light, sound, and matter across mediums. Video has long been central to their work, shaping a cinematic language that blurs the boundaries between installation, ritual, and documentary.

In their debut feature documentary Jaripeo (co-directed with Rebecca Zweig), Mojica expands this experimental approach into long-form cinema, developing an intimate and formally inventive mode of storytelling. The film navigates the porous line between reality and the subconscious, merging observational documentary with poetic and sensory abstraction. It premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival in the NEXT section and had its European premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) in Panorama, where it was nominated for the TEDDY Award.

Jaripeo received major institutional support, including the Chicken & Egg Pictures (Egg)celerator Lab, the Sundance Institute Documentary Fund, the Sundance Production Fund, Field of Vision, SFFILM Documentary Fund, Points North Institute, ITVS, and Arte.

Across disciplines, Mojica approaches art as an act of transformation - collapsing the boundaries between body and image, tradition and experimentation, the visible and the felt. Their work insists that art is not a fixed medium, but a living force: a site where identity, memory, and desire are continuously reimagined.
