Wally Backman was born on September 22, 1959 in Hillsboro, Oregon, USA.

Made major league debut on 2 September 1980.

Played infield (mostly at second base) for the National League's New York Mets (1980-1988), Pittsburgh Pirates (1990), and Philadelphia Phillies (1991-192); and the American League's Minnesota Twins (1989) and Seattle Mariners (1993).

Named Manager of the Buffalo Bisons of the International League.
