Biography
Eddie Egan is a veteran motion picture studio executive, and now offers marketing consultant services on select film campaigns.
Egan spent the majority of his career at Universal Pictures, where he was named President of Marketing for the world famous studio in 2007.
In that role, Egan directed all aspects of marketing-including creative advertising, media, publicity, promotion, digital and multi-cultural marketing and administration-for Universal's feature film releases. He reported directly to the Chairman of Universal.
Egan joined Universal Pictures in December 1994 as Senior Vice President, and, in March 1999, was named Executive Vice President, Universal Pictures Marketing. He was promoted to Co-President, Marketing, in May 2002.
During his tenure at Universal, Egan played a pivotal role in the marketing campaigns of such hit films as Despicable Me and its first sequel; Bridesmaids; Mamma Mia!; Wanted; The Incredible Hulk; Baby Mama; Forgetting Sarah Marshall; American Gangster; I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry; Knocked Up; The Break-Up; United 93; Inside Man; Steven Spielberg's Munich; Peter Jackson's King Kong; Cinderella Man; The 40-Year-Old Virgin; Meet the Fockers; Ray; Friday Night Lights; Dawn of the Dead; Along Came Polly; Bruce Almighty; 8 Mile; The Bourne Identity and its first two sequels; Seabiscuit; the Academy Award-winning Best Picture A Beautiful Mind; Jurassic Park III; The Fast and the Furious and its first four sequels; The Mummy and its two sequels; the first three American Pie comedies; Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas; Erin Brockovich; the Nutty Professor films; Liar Liar; The Lost World: Jurassic Park; and the Academy Award-nominated Best Pictures Apollo 13 and Babe.
He also supervised the initial marketing campaign for Universal's Tony Award-winning smash Broadway musical hit Wicked, which continues to sell out performances in New York, launched multiple international touring productions and is currently being made into a two-part motion picture set for release in 2024 and 2025.
For the marketing campaign of 8 Mile, Egan and Adam Fogelson were named "Entertainment Marketers of the Year" by Advertising Age in 2003 .
Egan left Universal in 2013 and began offering marketing consultant services to the industry. Some of his notable campaigns include Walt Disney Studios' Into the Woods, Steven Spielberg's Academy Award-nominated Bridge of Spies and STXFilm's hit comedy Bad Moms.
Following the success of Bad Moms, Egan was named President of Marketing at STXFilms, where he supervised the theatrical and home entertainment campaigns for The Foreigner, A Bad Moms Christmas, Molly's Game, Den of Thieves and I Feel Pretty.
He joined Universal from Sony Pictures Entertainment, where he served as Senior Vice President, Marketing, for TriStar Pictures (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Basic Instinct, Philadelphia, Steven Spielberg's Hook). Prior, he held the same position for the combined Columbia Pictures/TriStar Pictures marketing departments. Before joining Sony in 1990, he was Vice President, Publicity, for Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, contributing to the marketing of films including Big, Die Hard, Predator, David Cronenberg's Dead Ringers, Wall Street, Working Girl and James Cameron's undersea adventure The Abyss.
Egan was born and raised in New York City and began his studio career at Paramount Pictures, where, from 1978 to 1987, he held several positions in the New York and Hollywood offices of the studio (playing a central role in the marketing of the Star Trek franchise and the first four motion pictures based on the legendary television series). In 1977, just out of high school, he landed his first paying job as a production assistant on the New York unit of Richard Donner's worldwide blockbuster Superman, starring Marlon Brando and Christopher Reeve.
Egan is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
