Suraya Ali was raised in Washington D.C. Before attending university she produced and directed two documentaries on the 1968 Martin Luther King riots in both Baltimore and Chicago, and was a regular youth correspondent on the Right Side with Armstrong Williams. Upon graduating high school she attended New York University where she completed her dissertation on Colorism in American, Mexican, and Brazilian Cinema. She obtained a Bachelors of Art in Global Liberal Studies and History. Suraya has also obtained a Masters of Fine Arts from New York Film Academy in Burbank.
