Played his entire career in the National Football League with one team, the New York Giants.

Was not able to play US high school football until he was a high school senior at Westbury High School in Houston, Texas. However, he was able to play organized football as a linebacker for the Mannheim (Germany) Redskins in 1985, mostly made up of other military brats from the nearby US Army base where his father was stationed.

In order to get US high school football experience, his father sent him to live with his brother Art Strahan in Houston, Texas, the summer before his senior year. Art arranged for Michael to attend Westbury High School in Houston, where he played one season of football, enough for him to get a scholarship offer from Texas Southern University.

From ages 9-16, he grew up in Mannheim, Germany, on a US Army base, where his father, Major Gene Strahan, was stationed.

His mother, Louise Strahan, was a basketball coach.

He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Sports Entertainment at 6918 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on January 23, 2023. Terry Crews and Constance Schwartz-Morini were guest speakers at the ceremony.

In February 2008, he was a member of the Super Bowl 42 Champion New York Giants.

Youngest of six children.

Twin daughters, Isabella and Sophia, were born on October 28, 2004.

His father, Gene Strahan, was a boxer with a 1-1 record against future heavyweight boxing champion Ken Norton.

After his high school football season, he returned to Germany to finish his classes, where he graduated from Mannheim Christian Academy.

He followed in the footsteps of his uncle Art Strahan, who also played defensive end at Texas Southern University, before becoming a professional football player.

Some of his college football awards included: First-team AP College-division All-American (1992). Edd Hayes' Black College Sports All-American (1992). First team All-Southwestern Athletic Conference (1992). SWAC's Player of the Year (1991, 1992). Black College Defensive Player of the Year (1992).

On the 10/11/13 airing of Late Show with David Letterman (1993), Michael shared that he is 6' 5" tall and his post-play weight is about 250 lb. He said when he started as a pro-football player, his playing weight was 280 lb., gradually reducing to about 252 by the time he stopped playing in 2007.

New York Jets great Wayne Chrebet, New York Giants great Michael Strahan, and NFL great Bruce Smith were on location to film the new National Football League (NFL) policy trailer for the Loews Cineplex NFL Kickoff campaign at the Loews Cherry Hill theater in New Jersey. (July 2002)

In March 2007, he was Guest of honor at New York Jets great Wayne Chrebet's upscale restaurant premiere across from Hofstra University and the New York Jets Headquarters on Long Island, New York. The opening included over 400 guests, current and former NFL players, and members of the media.

Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Black College Football Hall of Fame (2014).
