Film composer who is equally comfortable with composing concert music. He has written a symphony and other major orchestral works as well as a great number of works for various chamber music ensembles. He has been recorded by Chatham Baroque Trio, Hub New Music and the Mirari Brass Quintet as well as the Budapest Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Serrano's musical style is extremely versatile. He has an uncanny ability to underscore drama according to the filmmaker's needs. That includes any period and location music, as well as genre choices. Period and genres can be intermixed in a positive manner to satisfy visual content with the sensibilities of the target audience as per filmmaker's indications. He is well travelled and has acquired direct knowledge of World music which includes not just composing it, but performing it. -Although Mr. Serrano has been fully trained in composing following Western European musical traditions, including the most avant-garde 20th-21st century techniques, he is no stranger to popular music genres. He is also an expert on using various synthesizers and even produces unique sound-designed elements with a seemingly unlimited sound palette. Melody lines and thematic materials (leitmotifs) appear to come easily to Mr. Serrano as well as sound texture based scores if that is what the filmmaker desires.
Carlos grew up with music. He attended Escuela Libre de Música, a middle school and high school for the performing arts in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He has a Bachelor in Music Composition from Northern Vermont University where he studied composition with Dr. Dennis Bathory-Kitsz and Dr. Kyle E. Saulnier. He is completing a Master of Fine Arts in Film Scoring at the Vermont College of Fine Arts in Montpellier, Vermont where he has been studying Film Scoring with Dr. Rick Baitz, a Juilliard professor, and Dr. John Mallia, the Director of Electronic Music at New England Conservatory. Mr. Serrano is also pursuing a Master of Music for Film Scoring at the acclaimed Berklee College of Music in Boston.
