  • Leila K, born Laila El Khalifi in Gothenburg 1971, is a Swedish Eurodance singer, actress and former rapper of Moroccan descent. At 15 her father decided to send his daughter to a Muslim school in Morocco in order to discipline her so she could achieve better study results. One year later she was back in Sweden. In 1988 Laila El Khalifi, under the artist name of Ms Melodie, was discovered when singing in a music contest by the musical duo Rob'n'Raz t and was offered a recording contract. Together with Rob'n'Raz, as Leila K, she had her first hit in 1989 with the song "Got to Get". During 1993 Leila K was Europe's best selling female recording artist. Swedish filmmaker Göran Olsson made the documentary "Fuck You, Fuck You Very Much" (1998) about Leila K's claim for stardom and her rowdy relationship with the media.
