Octavio Maya(I)

Octavio Maya Rocha born on June 5th of 1973 in Mexico City. Graduated from the Universidad Anahuac del Norte at Mexico City with a BD in Sciences of Communication with a specialty in Marketing, as well as a post-grade in film critic and analysis at the same University. His first professional work as a creative for the renowned TV Star Andres Bustamante "El Güiri-Güiri"; where he met Antonio Garci, who at that time was also the creative of Eugenio Derbez. With Garci and other friends, he joins as a script writer to the famous political magazine "El Chahuistle" working with illustrator talents as Bachan, Carcass, Vera & Bef. During 1996, he began working at TV Azteca in the newsroom with Rosa Maria de Castro. Shortly After TV Azteca, he went to Atlanta, Georgia to work with CNN Spanish during the Centennial of Olympics of 1996, where he spent a year in Georgia. Back in Mexico City he starts working in the film industry with famous Mexican producer Carmen Armendariz, as a location manager for El Septimo Sello, a film & TV production company. At the same time, Octavio Maya Rocha was working in TV Azteca as a scriptwriter for several shows at the Mexican network. His first film experience was "Parejas" directed by Enrique Arroyo produced by Carmen Armendariz working as a location manager. After working on Locations for a couple of years Octavio Maya went to Televisa, working as a scriptwriter for Abraham Zabludovsky where he worked on the special program "El Siglo de las Maravillas" (The Century of Wonders), and as a film critic on "En la Radio" with the Mexican anchors Adela Micha and Leonardo Kourchenko in the legendary radio station XEW in Mexico City. During the time of the postgraduate in film analysis, he met film director Alejandro Pelayo who eventually was named as director of IMCINE (Mexican Institute of Cinematography) inviting Octavio Maya as Chief of Media Department working with the Electronic media Press, Public Relations, also in charge of the editing room, discotheque and producer & Director for more than 25 Behind the scenes of Mexican films. Some of the films he participate includes "Perfume de Violetas" "Cuento de Hadas para dormir cocodrilos", "Su Alteza Serenisima", "Otilia Rauda", "Vera", "Corzones Rotos", "Gavilan de la Sierra", "De Noche vienes Esmeralda", among many others. After the change of the administration of the Mexican Institute of Cinematography, Octavio Maya starts collaborating at the Reforma Newspaper writing about filmmaking in Mexico as a collaborator for the Director's Dictionary of Mexican Cinema of Perla Ciuk. In 2001 joining forces with Silvestre Lopez he creates the radio concept of "El Proyector"(The Projector) who became one of the few cinemas shows in radio & International TV programs in Mexico during that time. The show lasts up to ten years on air where he was producing, writing, editing, and hosting the show. With "El Proyector" he achieve one of the most successful careers covering The Oscar' s for ten consecutive years, as well the coverage for The Golden Globes, and several international film festivals. Interviewing International cinema icons like Martin Scorsese, Anthony Hopkins, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Paz Vega, Luc Besson, Will Smith, Ron Howard, Spike Lee, Guillermo del Toro, James Cameron, Alfonso Cuarón, Brad Bird, Diego Luna, Gael García Bernal among others.

Wrote for Warner Brothers Home Video the book "American Legend" about the life of James Dean for the special Edition of DVDs of the American film icon. Octavio Maya became a partner of Acrono Producciones, a production company where they publish important books of International acclaim writers like Fernando Pessoa, Odyseas Elitis, Constantino Kavafis, Xebdet Bairaj, Vladimir Arsenijevick, as was in charge of the production of cinema & Television projects. Some of them the documentary of Vegard Haseelberg for Hydro of Norway and the second feature of Jorge Bolado's "Peyote/Monterrey". In 2004 he starts working on the book of interviews of Mexican Director's of the 90's title "Dias de Batalla" (Days of Battle) where he explores the life and work of 40 Mexican directors like Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo Del Toro, Alejandro González Iñarritu, Carlos Bolado, Carlos Carrera to name a few, the book is still in process. In 2006, in a new start, he create his own production film company Euphoria Films Mexico, based in Mexico City. His first approach with Euphoria Films México was the independent distribution of "En el Hoyo" (In The Pit) directed by Juan Carlos Rulfo. The best International documentary at Sundance became one of the first documentaries to hit at the Mexican box office. "En el Hoyo" became a big crossover for so many documentaries of Mexico in terms of distribution. Then Octavio Maya worked the distribution of the films like "Erendira Ikikunari" of Juan Mora Catlett, "Cumbia Callera" of Rene Villareal, and the International promotion at the Golden Globes to films like "Nonna's trip" of Batan Silva, "Days of Grace" of Everardo Gout, and "Purgatorio" of Roberto Rochin. In 2007 he continue directing behind the scenes "2033" by Francisco Laresgoiti, "Cosas Insignificantes" by Andrea Martinez produced by Guillermo Del Toro and Bertha Navarro. At the end of 2009, he starts directing and producing his own material with the short film "El Último Aliento"(The Last Breath) with a Budget of 340,000 dlls, been the most expensive independent short film in the history of México.

From 2009-2014 Octavio Maya worked between several Mexican cities and in the US and Mexico City directing and producing the short documentary "Little Angels" with Martha Higareda, "Where time stand still", the Nortec Collective: Hiperboreal video, and worked on the productions of "Americano"(2011), Top Gear, Murder in Paradise(Cineflix/Discovery Channel(2012), and "Turbo" (Mexicanos) for Discovery Channel(2013). With his company, in 2012 Euphoria Films México became the publicist of the film "Little Boy" by Alejandro Monteverde of Metanoia films. In August of 2013, he was directing the Behind the scenes / Documentary "Hope of a Nation" of "Hands of Stone" starring Robert De Niro, Edgar Ramirez, Usher, and Ana de Armas. Revealing the toff days of production of the seven-year Panamanian production about the life of boxer Roberto "Manos de Piedra" Durán. . He has a son, Luis Carlos Maya
