Biography

Lois Smith was born on March 1, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA. She is known for All the President's Men (1976), Bringing Out the Dead (1999) and A River Runs Through It (1992). She was married to Eugene Jeffrey Smith. She died on October 7, 2012 in Lewiston, Maine, USA.

Publicist. Clients included Robert Redford, Marilyn Monroe, Meryl Streep, Warren Beatty, Gina Lollobrigida, and Martin Scorsese.

With husband Gene Smith, a publisher, daughter is actress Brooke Smith, of Grey's Anatomy (2005).

Her son, Scott Eugene Smith, died in a surfing accident on August 2, 1985 at the family home in Plum Island, Massachusetts. Lois and her husband set up a scholarship fund in Scott's name at the Hebron Academy, where he would have been a junior. His father also graduated from the Hebron Academy, Class of 1943.

She was born Lois Eileen Wollenweber in Brooklyn, the daughter of Jessie (Watkins) and Henry Wollenweber. Her paternal grandparents were German. Her mother was from Newfoundland, Canada.
