Ruohan Li, a Chinese artist and filmmaker originally from Anshan, has pursued her creative journey through the realms of experimental film, video art, and documentary. Born and raised in China, she has studied and worked in Beijing, currently calling Los Angeles her base. Ruohan's artistic practice transcends the confines of a single medium, encompassing installation art and experimental video art. Collaborating with choreographers, dancers, composers, animators, and others, she seeks precise ways to articulate abstract concepts. Drawing from her generational perspective, Ruohan delves into personal memories and emotions within the vast cultural backdrop of China, offering keen insights into societal changes and sensitively capturing the nuances of daily life. Her work involves a vertical exploration of history and culture, emphasizing a comparative study of Eastern and Western cultures. As a Chinese artist residing in the United States, she actively seeks diverse sources, presenting the audience with the power of cultural collision and the beauty of diversity. Her previous works reflect a combination of personal documentary language, self-effacing humor, and an ironic attitude, uncovering the unnoticed repetitions of life. Additionally, Ruohan's attention to the depth of specific cultures and the translation from text to images is evident through her romantic and poetic tone.
