Oleta Adams was born on May 4, 1953 in Seattle, Washington, USA. She is an actress and composer, known for Sleeping with the Enemy (1991), The Fearless Four (1997) and Tears for Fears: Woman in Chains (1989). She has been married to John Cushon since 1994.

American singer who was discovered performing in a Kansas bar in 1985 by Tears for Fears band members Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. The band featured Adams on their 1989 hit "Woman In Chains" and the following year she released her debut album "Circle Of One", on the Fontana label. The album featured her biggest hit to date: a cover of Brenda Russell 's "Get Here", which became a worldwide smash and is regarded by many as the unofficial anthem for the first Gulf War.

In the new year of 2025, Adams announced, via her official social media channels, that she was retiring after 53 years as a touring musician. Although she did not specify that she was retiring as a recording artist.
