- Carlos Sarmiento is an award-winning artist with extensive experience in the creative, production and marketing aspects of Film, Television, Theatre and Media. Born and raised in Venezuela, and having lived in Europe as well as an avid world traveler, Sarmiento graduated from Miami-Dade Community College with an Associate in Arts degree in Journalism/Communications and from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts - School of Filmmaking where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film Directing.
"Gilmour," his graduating thesis film, has received many awards and honors at various film festivals including WorldFest Houston/Houston International Film Festival (Houston, Texas), Cine Eagle Competition (Washington D.C.) and the Student Academy Awards (national competition).
He previously worked as Writer/Producer for Discovery Networks Latin America/Iberia (Miami, FL) for the On-Air Promotions & Special Projects department (Marketing Division) where he created commercials, scripts and promotional materials for various regions in Latin America, as well as Spain and Portugal. He also served as Publicist for the historic Coconut Grove Playhouse (Miami).
In 2001, Sarmiento was one of three directors considered by HBO Independent Films and Producer George LaVoo for the award-winning feature film "Real Women Have Curves."
Sarmiento is the founder and president of Palm Tree Pictures, Inc., a production and consulting company that, along with his writing/producing partner J. C. Martin, develops and produces, feature and short films, music videos and still photography, as well as consulting in writing, marketing and public relations initiatives.
Their first feature-length screenplay collaboration "Shades of Grey," was a finalist at the 2005 WorldFest Houston/Houston International Film Festival (Houston, Texas) for best original screenplay (drama). Their second feature-length script entitled "Somewhere Down the Road, " a romantic dramedy won the top award for best original script (romance) at the 2007 WorldFest Houston/Houston International Film Festival and is presently being developed as an independent film that Sarmiento plans to also produce and direct.
