Biography

Felipe Nepomuceno is a Brazilian director, writer and producer. He trained in Theatre Directing at UNIRIO in Rio de Janeiro, with further studies at the Parque Lage School of Visual Arts and the School of Visual Arts in New York. Over more than two decades he has directed over 50 short films and the feature documentaries "Eduardo Galeano Vagamundo" (2018), "Lugar de Fala" (2019) and "Ney à Flor da Pele" (2020), the latter a portrait of the Brazilian performer Ney Matogrosso.

For Canal Brasil he directed several acclaimed documentary series. Among them is "Sangue Latino", shot in black and white by cinematographer Walter Carvalho across eight seasons and more than 200 episodes filmed in seven countries of Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula, featuring figures such as Fernanda Montenegro, Ricardo Darin, Wagner Moura, Fito Paez and Ariano Suassuna. He also directed "Janelas Abertas", built around conversations on cinematic language with filmmakers including Alfonso Cuaron, Terry Gilliam and Hirokazu Kore-eda, as well as "26 Poemas Hoje", "A Arte do Encontro", "Contradanca" and "Estudio 66", and the series "Album de Memorias" and "Globo Ciencia".

In music, he directed the official concert-tour trilogy of Ney Matogrosso: "Beijo Bandido" (2010), "Atento aos Sinais" (2014) and "Bloco na Rua" (2020).

A writer as well, Nepomuceno is the author of seven books, among them "Mapoteca", "Blume" and "O Velho em Chamas". His work brings together cinema, poetry and memory, with a particular focus on musical, literary and political documentary.
