Biography

Saint John The Apostle. Birth date unknown, died c.101 at Ephesus (modern Turkey) where a church was built over his tomb and later converted to a mosque. Son of Zebedee and Salome. Brother of Saint James the Great. His canonical writings are the "Gospel According to Saint John" (the fourth), three Epistles and possibly the Book of Revelation. Became known as the Beloved Disciple and the Apostle of Charity. Took part in the "Last Supper", and the only Disciple said not to have forsaken Christ in the hour of His Passion at the foot of the cross. Made guardian of Mary, Mother of Jesus. Survived all his fellow Apostles. Memorial Days are 8th May in the Greek Orthodox and 27th December in the Roman Catholic faiths. His patronage covers art dealers, authors, bookbinders, booksellers, compositors, editors, engravers, lithographers, painters, papermakers, printers, publishers, tanners, theologians, typesetters, writers and places of Cleveland Ohio, Milwaukee Wisconsin, Taos New Mexico and Asia Minor.
