Biography

  • Mykle McCoslin is an actress, writer, producer, director, and a Southern girl at heart, (tall, funny, wild, and sexy) - and all woman. Don't let the name fool you. At the age of 4, she began her acting career after her Grandma Elvis - that's right, Elvis (who was named Elvis before Elvis Presley) - bought her the album to the movie Grease after seeing it. Mykle immediately memorized the entire album performing songs from the film for her aunts and uncles on her grandmother's living room coffee table for 25 cents, her first earnings as an actor.

Born in Houston, Texas, Mykle spent every summer growing up in the tiny town of Donie, Texas (the smallest town in Texas with a bank) with her paternal grandmother Elvis, learning about the arts and country livin' through singing, dancing, and improvisation. She counts herself lucky to have traveled many summers to Honduras, her mother Emma's homeland, where she learned to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently from her godmother, Ana, a school teacher, while also learning about the culture and jovial way of life there. Half Irish-American, half Honduran, Mykle is proud of her bi-cultural heritage and the gift of being bilingual. She credits her diverse upbringing for her passion and love for acting and travel and truly cherishes how both cultures shaped the woman she is today.

Known for her illuminating, warm personality, and for bringing timeless elegance and grace to the roles she plays, Houston Press compared Mykle in her performance as Hester Solomon in Equus to "a young Ava Gardner, who lights up the stage with her presence."

Mykle attended the School of Dramatics Arts at the University of Southern California and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre. It was here that she landed her first leading role in the play, Two Gents, a modern version of Shakespeare's Two Gentlemen of Verona. Mykle was also a member of the famed improv troupe Commedus Interruptus. Following her college years, Mykle studied acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse under the direction of Milton Katselas, Jeffrey Tambor, and Al Mancini. She made her film debut in the award-winning short, ED and has starred in numerous television shows, including AMC's Preacher and ABC's The Astronaut Wives Club, and commercials for McDonald's, Miracle Whip, and La Quinta. Her film work includes the 2023 SXSW Narrative Spotlight Audience Award-winning film, The Long Game, opposite Dennis Quaid and Jay Hernandez, Run with the Hunted (with Ron Perlman, Michael Pitt, and William Forsythe), and The Seventh Day, (with Guy Pierce).

In 2020, Mykle was awarded her first Best Actress Award at the Gulf Coast Film and Video Festival.

A proud member of Actors' Equity and SAG-AFTRA, Mykle serves as the National Board member for the SAG-AFTRA Houston-Austin local and is an activist for union performers. In May 2023, she spoke at the Texas State Capitol championing legislatures to pass several tax incentive bills to bring more work to her home state. A go-getter to the "T" Mykle has often referred to herself as, "The bitch from Texas who gets shit done."

Her greatest accomplishment to date has been her daughter, Poppy Graceyn Burton, who is following in her mother's footsteps among other things.

Mykle had her directorial debut in the music video, I Love You Like A Rainbow, a song her acting student, actress Dylan Chance, wrote for her and is working on landing a development deal for several scripted and unscripted Television series. Mykle tells her story in her upcoming memoir, My Grandma Elvis, soon to be released, which she plans on adapting into a screenplay she will direct.

Trivia

  • Mykle was named after her father, Dennis Michael, by her paternal grandmother, Elvis, who changed the spelling of the name Michael to Mykle.
