- Clarence Fountain was born on November 28, 1929 in Tyler, Alabama, USA. He was an actor and composer, known for Great Performances (1971), Madea Goes to Jail (2009) and The Fighting Temptations (2003). He was married to Barbara Fountain. He died on June 3, 2018 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA.

- He was a founding member and the longtime leader of the gospel group the Blind Boys of Alabama. The group's only surviving founding member is Jimmy Carter.
- When he was 8 years old, he entered the Alabama Institute for the Negro Deaf and Blind. While singing in the school choir, he and five friends formed the Happy Land Jubilee Singers. They toured throughout the 1940s, and recorded the hit "I Can See Everybody's Mother But Mine". They changed their name to the Blind Boys of Alabama, a name coined by a New Jersey concert promoter.
