Born in New Orleans and raised in Atlanta by his parents William Robert Black, a senior project manager for Lockwood Greene Engineers, and Ann Marie Clement Black, a purchasing agent for the Veterans Administration Hospital, Brantley earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University and Master of Business Administration degree in Management from Georgia State University.
At left brain, he turned right (thank you, Tony Meindl)... moved to Manhattan, and worked as a bartender while studying theater with Deloss Brown, acting instructor at The Juilliard School and NYU Tisch School of the Arts. His favorite role on stage in New York was as Robin Hood in The Adventures of Robin Hood at the Grove Street Playhouse. Recurring roles on All My Children, As The World Turns, and Another World followed.
Brantley relocated to Los Angeles, transitioned from mixologist to personal trainer/sole proprietor/owner of TrainHardCore, LLC, and continued working on acting technique with Charlotte Cornwell, Anthony Meindl, Nancy Banks, and Sam Christensen. He landed the lead antagonist role of Zitchen in the feature film Alien Battlefield, directed by Thomas Dixon. His favorite role on stage in LA was as Don in Rounding Third at the Little Fish Theatre. A close second was working with Ed Asner (as God, of course) in Orgasms The Play at the 550-seat Madrid, playing Adam opposite Kimmie Fadem as Eve.
Brantley relocated back to Atlanta where he continued scene study with Sara Mornell. TV appearances during that time include Zoo, Insatiable, Claws, NCIS: New Orleans, and The Wonder Years reboot directed by Fred Savage.
Brantley has one sibling, his older and wiser sister Belinda, owner of Chez Clay, a pottery studio in the adjacent French Quarter of the arts district.
