- Rodolfo Gaona was born on January 22, 1888 in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. He was an actor, known for Oro, sangre y sol (1923), Corrida de Covandonga (1921) and El último día del torero (1925). He was married to Enriqueta Gómez Vázquez and Carmen Ruiz Moragas. He died on May 20, 1975 in Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico.

- His marriage to Carmen Ruiz Moragas was arranged by her parents to save her reputation after they learned that she had become involved with King Alfonso XIII. Gaona divorced Carmen when he realized their marriage was, in effect, a sham, and returned to Mexico. Carmen would eventually bear the king two children.
- Considered one of the greatest bullfighters in the history of the sport.
