Biography

David Auburn was born on November 30, 1969 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He is a writer and director, known for Charlie's Angels (2019), The Lake House (2006) and Proof (2005). He is married to Frances Rosenfeld.

Won the Joseph Kesselring Prize, the Pulitzer Prize, the Drama Desk Award, and the Tony Award for "Proof."

University of Chicago (B.A.) English Literature, 1991.

Won Broadway's 2001 Tony Award as author of Best Play winner "Proof."

His play, "The Columnist," at the American Blues Theater in Chicago, Illinois was nominated for a 2017 Joseph Jefferson Equity Award for Midsize Play Production.

He was nominated for a 2019 New Work-Play for "The Adventures of Augie March" at the Court Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.

I think it's true that we're living in this golden age of television. If you go to a dinner party, people are talking about the latest episode of whatever show they're following. They're not talking about the latest movie, which is what they might have done ten or fifteen years ago. That's a really striking change. The studios have largely abandoned making the kind of movies that writers want to write, and directors want to direct. And all of that energy is going into television.

I like everything involved in putting on a play. I love being in the rehearsal room. I love tracking the whole process, altering the play as I hear audience responses. I love that breathing you listen to when a play is being performed in front of an audience.
