Sally McCloskey(1935-1985)

Sally Ann McCloskey was a wonderful ballerina who studied with legends like Vincenzo Celli, Anne Douglas, Germaine Ballou, and Adolph Bolm. She began dancing at the age of eight. She worked mostly on television before being cast in Hans Christian Andersen (1952) at $137.50 a week and continuing to appear in movies at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer like Brigadoon (1954) and Anything Goes (1956). Sally was described as a responsible and business-savvy woman who rarely dated and avoided temptations like alcohol and cigarettes that plagued a lot of entertainers in Hollywood.
Howard Hughes loved redheads and his adoration of Sally was evident in The French Line (1954). She was initially hired as a dancer in the 'With a Kiss' segment but was given dialogue during rewrites. She left Hollywood for a while to do some choreography at the Sands Hotel and upon returning lived with her parents in Manhattan Beach to save money, telling a reporter in 1956 that she had $12,000 saved. She told the same reporter that "I know my limitations. I'll never be a star, but I hope to be a better dancer." She never became a star and after getting married she stepped away from Hollywood while occasionally doing theatrical productions like South Pacific and Sleeping Beauty. Sally died in 1985 and is survived by her daughter Angela.
