Biography

Filmmaker Matthew Mishory was named a "rising talent" by Variety and a "poetic filmmaker" (Film Threat) who "has managed to capture an austere beauty of a kind little known by all but the likes of Baudelaire" (Film International). Equally comfortable working in (and in-between) documentary and fiction forms, he has told the stories of outsiders and visionaries.

Matthew is in post-production on Mosolov's Suitcase (starring Lior Ashkenazi), the experimental biopic of a purged Soviet composer that finds brutal parallels in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. His credits include the docs Fioretta (winner of three prizes at DocLA), Who Are the Marcuses? (featuring Warren Buffett), No Place of Exile (for Arte), and Absent ("must-see" - Cineuropa); and the narrative films Joshua Tree, 1951 and Delphinium (BFI National Film Archive).

A top commercial director, Matthew has shot campaigns-including for the Super Bowl broadcast-featuring sports stars (Giannis Antetokounmpo, Venus Williams, Tia Blanco) and business world giants (Charlie Munger, Larry Fink, Ted Decker). He has earned a reputation for consistently delivering challenging spots to the world's most demanding brands.

Matthew has also created a series of ambitious film installations for the Berlin Musikfest and screened work at the Tate Britain Museum in London. Matthew splits his time between Santa Monica and New York City. When he's not on set, he can usually be found surfing or crate digging for jazz and punk LPs.
