- Son of Wendy Belzberg, a Canadian heiress and daughter of corporate raider Samuel Belzberg, who the New York Times once called "one of Canada's wealthiest and most controversial businessmen." In 1983, Wendy became a researcher for Peter Jennings on ABC World News Tonight before becoming an associate producer on Nightline with Ted Koppel and a producer on the ABC TV news program Our World.

Strauss is the founder and CEO of ZMC, the private equity firm that bought The Second City in 2021.
