Biography

Leon Welling is known for We Do Monsters (2007), We Do Monsters: A Problem of Bigfoot (2011) and Costigan Bloch (2018).

I graduated school in 2003. I moved to Los Angeles, because I was told that was the thing to do. I lasted about six months.

I think I got into film because I'm interested in stories that aren't, like the norm. Like I wanted to know what the asteroid thought during Armageddon.

I tend to give people a lot of room for improvisation. My method is to run the actors through the lines for maybe two takes, then three or four takes of improvisation. At one point I kind of become useless as a director.

I used to be the person who made the funny movies. But it's been changing a lot, to where I'd prefer to make something funny when I feel funny, and something unnerving when I'm unnerved. In short, I'd prefer to be a complete schizo.

I became a filmmaker because I'm incapable of contributing anything else to the planet.
