Vasiliy Bubka
Vasiliy Bubka is a Soviet and Ukrainian athlete, older brother of sports legend Sergey Bubka. Like his brother, he specialized in pole vaulting. Master of Sports of the USSR. USSR Champion in 1985. Two-time Ukrainian Champion in 1994 and 1996.
At age 12, he entered the Dynamo Youth Sports School in his hometown. He won bronze at the 1985 World Indoor Championships (losing to his younger brother Sergey, who won gold). He also won silver at the 1986 European Championships (losing only to his younger brother Sergey, who won gold). At the 1993 World Championships, he placed 9th with a result of 5.70 m (while his younger brother, Sergey, won gold). At the 1996 Olympics, he failed to make a single successful attempt.
