Biography

Jess Blackwell is an award-winning British-Canadian actor, writer, and filmmaker based in Toronto, ON. She obtained foundational training in the Meisner technique before going on to study on-camera acting and voice performance at several notable Toronto studios.

As the founder of Lumida Productions, she is passionate about bringing to life women-led narratives that are as thought-provoking as they are engaging. Thematically, Jess loves to examine the core of what it means to be human. Having obtained a master's degree in philosophy before pursuing a career in the film industry, Jess continues to find themes such as identity, communication, self-development, interpersonal relationships, and the creation of meaning and purpose especially compelling.

As a dual citizen, Jess is passionate about working on both British and Canadian projects. Jess leads a vegan, low-waste lifestyle and actively volunteers with environmental nonprofits.
