Biography

Eric's interest in audio began as a child with his family's Ampex home console, which included a reel-to-reel tape recorder. At 13 years old, he began his musical education learning tuba and trombone. When he was a young teenager, he rode his bicycle to Cal State University Northridge to find the radio station that he had been listening to, KCSN. By age 15, Eric had obtained his FCC Third Class Radiotelephone license and began engineering many hours of live radio broadcasts.

In 1984 at the age of 22, Eric took what was to be a temporary job at ATK/Audiotek under the leadership of Jim Showker and Scott Harmala. The job lasted for over a year, and in addition to working shows and shop work, ATK/Audiotek specialized in providing sound equipment for television, giving him an insight into audio for television and film. From there Eric began freelancing with several live sound reinforcement companies, progressing to Monitor and FOH Engineer.

By 1986, Eric was beginning to delve into television production by working on game shows, sitcoms and Sports production, moving quickly into the role of Production Mixer, as well as a Post-Production Mixer for corporate/industrials. Eric joined IATSE Local 695 In 1988, and from 1990 to 1994 was a Fisher Boom Operator on many high-profile multi camera shows, and today is the instructor for Local 695's Fisher Boom class.

Eric was staff at KTLA television from 1995 through 2000 when he went freelance as the Production Sound Mixer on such shows as "Eight Simple Rules", "Yes, Dear" and "Jonas" among many others. In 2018, Eric returned to KTLA where he found that the sound for the revered Rose Parade broadcast had deteriorated significantly. Eric took over the broadcast sound of the parade in 2022.
