Biography

Janja and President Lula have known each other for several decades, but their relationship only began at the end of 2017 during an event. The romance was not revealed until May 2019, when Lula had been politically incarcerated for more than a year over a judgment that later was annulled. Janja wrote him letters every day.

She joined the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) party in 1983, which was co-founded two years earlier by her now-husband Lula.

In 1990, she enrolled the studies of Social Science at the Federal University of Paraná and specialized in History in the same institution.

She is Brazil's 38th First Lady, wife of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
