Biography

Harry Shaw is a British writer, producer and director. His work spans independent film and high-end television, with a particular focus on character-driven genre stories. He began his career in photojournalism and documentary filmmaking, with work published by Vice, Noisey, Notion and Vogue. His first Channel 4 documentary won the Royal Television Society southern award for Best Newcomer, while his documentary Don’t Think Twice, featuring music by Bob Dylan, qualified for the BIFAs.

His narrative work includes Can You Feel It, nominated for Best Director at the BFI Future Film Festival and selected for BFI Flare, and Sugar Babies, which received nominations from the Cannes Independent Short Awards, British Short Film Awards and Shark Awards.

A frequent collaborator with the BFI, Shaw has lead-produced two BFI-funded short films: Rice Ball, mentored by Michaela Coel and premiered at the BFI London Film Festival, and Meat Raffle, which qualified for the BAFTAs, competed for the Iris Prize and secured broadcast on Film4 and Channel 4. His lockdown short When This Is All Over was acquired by the BFI National Archive, and he is a graduate of the BFI x BAFTA Mentoring Programme and a BAFTA Connect member.

His debut feature, We Need To Kill Your Father, is in development with Article1. He is currently a Staff Writer on a new high-end action-adventure series for AppleTV, having previously worked on Silo (AppleTV) and The Diplomat (Netflix) as a Showrunner’s, Writers’ and Director’s Assistant. He also co-founded Ban Conversion Practices, the UK’s leading campaign to end conversion therapy.
