- He was tortured and murdered by three Charles Manson cult members, Charles 'Tex' Watson, Susan Atkins, and Patricia Krenwinkel on Saturday, August 9th, 1969. Folger's Coffee descendant, Abigail Folger, was his date. She was also murdered along with Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring and Steve Parent.

"Voytek" and "Voyteck" were two awkward quasi-phonetical representations of the proper pronunciation of "Wojtek", which were often used by Frykowski's friends during his stay in USA; the "Voytek" one stuck, was even used in some forms filled by Frykowski (who never actually changed his name), and was eventually incorrectly taken down as his real name by the Manson family prosecutor, Vincent Bugliosi.
