Dimitris Theodoropoulos(I)

Dimitris Theodoropoulos is a Greek director of photography and professor of cinematography whose work bridges academic research and professional filmmaking. He teaches at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he serves within the Faculty of Arts and leads the Technology and Aesthetics Laboratory of Audiovisual Media, contributing to the study and advancement of contemporary film practice. He studied cinematography at the American Film Institute on a Fulbright Scholarship and holds a degree in political science from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Alongside his academic role, he has led and participated in research projects focused on digital cinematography, including lens development, image manipulation, and the relationship between sound and visual representation. His work as director of photography includes numerous feature films such as Sacrilege (2017), Kantina (2009), Mikres exegerseis (2009), and The Heart of the Beast (2005), as well as an extensive body of short films and television series that have been presented at major international festivals including Cannes and Montreal. He has also directed and shot documentary projects, notably the series Klimatiki allagi kai Ellada (2010) and the feature documentary Aphrodite's Child: Lucas Sideras (2013), reflecting a strong engagement with both artistic and socially driven storytelling. In addition to his screen work, he has contributed as a lighting designer for theatre productions and cultural events, and he has authored the book 'The Light on Greek Cinema', further establishing his role as both a practitioner and theorist of cinematography.
