As Snakes of Russia, Los Angeles based producer and composer Joseph
Holiday works hazy dark sound design, low end rumble and rolling downtempo
beats into tracks that evoke a dystopian landscape...creating heavy cinematic
instrumental electronic music that feels as timeless as it does current.
His debut EP "At Home Alone With Lions" came in early 2020, followed by
remixes, film work, various sound design projects for Ableton Live, Spitfire Audio,
Netflix, MNTRA, and Infinite Samples as well as his own library of sample
and loop packs leading to bespoke work for fellow composers.
For his latest LP "True Surrender" on Modular Field/Rough Trade, he worked with renowned metal producer Kurt Ballou (Converge, High on Fire, Chelsea Wolfe) at his God City studio in Salem, MA to explore a heavier sound overall, experimenting with different techniques such as re amping synths through guitar cabinets, drum machines through PA speakers, and live drums... to expand the sonic palette and make his heaviest work to date.
Fresh off a month long North American tour with Finnish doom metal legends Swallow The Sun, he is set to release his most ambitious sound design project to date... VENOM, a collaboration with The Crow Hill Company. Venom combines all analogue sourced drum kits and synth basses processed through a multitude of effects chains, outboard gear, and re amping techniques to create an instrument that combines massive low end with absolute character.
