Biography

Anupam Sharma is a filmmaker, speaker and author with a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Films &Theatre, and a post-graduate thesis on Indian cinema from University of NSW. Named as one of the fifty most powerful & influential Australian film professionals by Encore magazine, he is the founding head of films & casting TEMPLE, one of the most prolific and award winning international production & consultancy firm based out of Fox-Studios - Sydney

Anupam was founding head of AI Film Fund (2013-16) which was based on his idea of alternative funding for diverse Australian films. As part of TEMPLE, worshipping cinema, Anupam leads a team of film professionals, who have worked on more than 264 projects between Australia and India, Denmark, USA, & China, including feature films, television serials, music videos, television commercials, as well as film festivals.

He returned to directing after winning a commission round by Australian National Maritime Museum and directed a short documentary Indian Aussies - Terms & Conditions Apply, which was installed in the museum for over two months and also nominated for awards around the world. Destination NSW then hired Anupam as the Creative Director for their most ambitious and high budgeted TV campaign for India. He directed 4 TVCs for this campaign and has been contracted to direct two more after the success of the ads in India.

Anupam then directed the much-publicized romantic comedy unINDIAN, starring Australian cricketer Brett Lee and internationally acclaimed actress Tannishtha Chatterjee. The film premiered at Montreal World Film Festival and screened at Antipodes at Cannes in 2016. David Stratton the most respected Australian film critic called it "....engaging in its cheerful celebration of community"

With private and government investment from India and Australia Anupam recently directed feature length factual -The Run which follows the journey of ultra-marathoner runner and ex-member of Parliament, Pat Farmer as he runs 85kms a day for 66 days across India.

Anupam is currently (October 2018) in pre pre for his thriller feature film in Victoria . Titled 'Honour' the film is based with the backdrop of the domestic violence and dowry death cases in Melbourne and is being produced by Jannine Barnes (Downriver - Toronto Film Festival). He is production (October 2018) of his feature length Australian documentary Bollywood Downunder with an international aka Global Bollywood.

In 2011 Anupam launched the Australian Film Initiative to market and promote Australian screen culture in non-traditional markets, resulting in India's first annual Australian Film Festival with support from Hugh Jackman in 2011, a Baz Luhrmann retrospective in 2012/2013, and Phillip Noyce retrospective in 14-15. Anupam has advised many government and private bodies in relation to Indian films, including Baz Luhrman's Moulin Rouge, Channel Seven, the Department of Foreign Affairs (Australia), and World Movies among others. In 2012 he was the chief judge and advisor to the first India centric Australian reality television show on SBS - Bollywood Star.

With a high social media following, Anupam is a respected commentator and frequent speaker at various conferences and on television programs including the ABC, the NINE Network, SBS TV, SPAA, Art Gallery of NSW, and the POWERHOUSE Museum. Anupam Sharma was honoured to be an Australia Day Ambassador seven years in a row, and was one of the thirteen young professionals shortlisted in the prestigious 'Face To Watch' series by The (SYDNEY) Magazine.

Anupam returned to directing when he got commissioned to produce and direct short documentary by the Australian National Maritime Museum. He then produced and directed one of the biggest ad campaigns for Destination NSW for the Asian market, directed the anti piracy campaign for the Intellectual Property Awareness Foundation, and produced/directed one of the launch films for the International Cricket Council.

With feature films as his forte, Anupam produced and directed the multi million dollar indie Australian romantic- comedy unINDIAN with Producer Lisa Duff, and starring Australian cricketer Brett Lee. He then produced and directed award winning feature documentary - The Run. Anupam then directed feature documentary Brand Bollywood...down under with Producer Claire Haywood. The film opened across theaters in Australia including special screenings and state and federal parliaments. Termed as one of the most comprehensive films on globalization and Bollywoodisation of Indian cinema the film won critical acclaim with great reviews from leading film critics, and won the best documentary award at 27th UK Asian Film Festival in London

Anupam is currently in production on feature Framed, with development assistance from SBS, Screen Australia, and Screen NSW . He has a slate of high profile Australian film projects as a Producer some as a director with major Australian film makers. These include thriller Durga with Producer Lisa Duff, The Indian Cowboy - story of India's only country singer Bobby Cash who was discovered by Tamworth Music Festival , Chilli, Chicks, and Heart attacks - a comedy based on popular book by Canberra based Dr. Sanjaya Senanayke, Bidjara Princess - First Aboriginal Indian story written by Richard Jameson, and Shadows - one of the first horror films incorporating Aboriginal, Indian, and Modern Australian horror themes. All these projects have had development investment from Screen Australia and/or Screen NSW and/or Screen Queensland and/or private and other development bodies

Anupam has advised many government and private bodies in relation to Indian films, including Baz Luhrman's Moulin Rouge , the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade, Governments of Queensland and NSW among others. In 2012 he was the chief judge and advisor to the first India centric Australian reality television show on SBS - Bollywood Star.

As strong supporter of diversity and international promotion of Australian cinema, Anupam has lead a number of Australian initiatives including An Australian Film Initaitive (with support from Hugh Jackman, Baz Luhrman among others), and voted as Chair of Australia India Film Council . In recognition of his work in films and diversity, Anupam has been appointed as an Australia Day Ambassador and appointed on the inaugural Diveristy Task Force of Screen Queensland.
