Born in Valladolid, Spain in 1972.

Born in Valladolid, Raquel graduated in Cinematography from the prestigious Madrid Film School, and is recognized worldwide as one of the best Spanish cinematographers. This has earned her, among others, the "Best Female Cinematographer Award" from the Women's Independent Film Festival in Los Angeles. Most of Raquel's professional life has been spent outside of Spain. There are 21 countries on 5 continents, in which she has shot films, documentaries, commercials and videos, in different climates, lights or economic-political situations, but always being sensitive to the history and culture of the director and her project. . Her experience with established and new directors, international productions, and multicultural and multilingual teams, give her a unique vision and flexibility. She once worked with Won Kar Wai's colorist, Ms. Hong Liu Jie. She's had films screen in competition at both Tribeca and Rotterdam Film Festivals. She spent two years in Los Angeles., before flying back over the Atlantic to shoot Traces of Sandalwood. The film won 2 festival awards. In August of 2015 she shot feature "Las Furias" for Miguel Del Arco.

Raquel Fernández Núñez, Vice President of AEC (Association of Cinematographers in Spain), is internationally recognized as one of the best international cinematographers in Spain. Raquel has won the Best Female Cinematographer Award at the Los Angeles Women's Independent Film Festival and she has been nominated at renowned events such as the Berlinale, Tribeca Film Festival, Rotterdam Film Festival, Golden Horse Film Festival (Taiwan), Hong Kong Film Festival, Documenta Madrid Film Festival, and the Goya Awards. Raquel Fernández Núñez has lived in New York, London, Shanghai, Los Angeles and Madrid. She has worked in diverse locations such as Venice, Guatemala City, Manila, Montreal, Bombay, Aman and Dubai. This broad experience has made her a flexible and versatile professional, whilst her unbiased and sensitive perspective is evident in the narratives, which she helps directors bring to life. Her interest in cultural and political processes in contemporary society has led her to collaborate with artists from various disciplines, creating audiovisual pieces that are part of the permanent collections of prestigious institutions such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona, Patrick Tuytens Collection, Brussels (Belgium), and Les Abattoirs Museum Toulouse (France). Her gender perspective is also strongly present in her teaching work at institutions such as the International Film School of Cuba, New York Film Academy, London Film School, and the Film School of the Community of Madrid. In these roles, she mentors future professionals in the industry, helping them analyze and reflect on the representation of women in cinema. Raquel is both passionate and professional in each of the projects she takes part in, and she is always highly sensitive to the director's culture and context. As a DOP Raquel Fernández Núñez is known for her unique use of light and her sensitivity to colour, form and texture.
