Carlos Pingarilho

Brazilian architect, painter, composer, singer, guitarist and pianist. He co-wrote many songs with poet Marcos Vasconcellos, his most frequent partner, as well as with his cousin Marcos Valle; among them, "Seu Encanto" (The Face I Love) and "Dorme Profundo." Pingarilho's songs have been recorded by the likes of João Gilberto, Luiz Bonfá, Elis Regina, Sarah Vaughan, Sylvia Telles, Ithamara Koorax, Laurindo Almeida, Joyce, Chris Montez, Dom Um Romao, Joanne Brackeen, Kenny Barron, Leny Andrade, Andy Williams, and most recently Gretchen Parlato on her 2024 Grammy-nominee album. Altough active as a composer since 1963, when Marcos Valle recorded "Canção Pequenina," Pingarilho only did his first recording session ever in 1998, invited by producer Arnaldo DeSouteiro to play on Dom Um Romao's "Rhythm Traveller" album. His debut album as a leader, "Histórias e Sonhos" came out only in 2002, for DeSouteiro's JSR label. In 2024, DeSouteiro directed three documentary movies about Pingarilho.
