Frederick B. Rush Jr. (known as Fred Rush), born on October 5, 1980, in Germantown, Philadelphia, is an American director, producer, writer, and cinematographer. The son of Frederick Holt and Gail Holt, Fred grew up in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, where he was raised in a Baptist household alongside his eight siblings: Sharone, Taria, Kendra (his oldest sibling), Jeremiah, Camilla, Damon (deceased), Emmanuel, and Grace (his younger siblings).
Fred attended Robert Fulton Elementary School and Roosevelt Middle School before going on to Germantown High School, where he studied mass media communications and broadcasting. During his high school years, Fred worked closely with his teacher, Mr. Robert Ramsey, who became a mentor to him. Through this apprenticeship, Fred learned the basics of video production, from handling VHS cameras to mastering different types of equipment and even writing scripts. His passion for media and filmmaking grew, and his hard work paid off when he earned a two-year scholarship to Syracuse University. However, due to family issues, Fred was unable to attend the university, instead returning to Philadelphia, where he enrolled at the Computer Learning Center, a two-year technical school. There, he earned an associate degree in computer networking engineering.
Fred later pursued a bachelor's degree in computer science at Drexel University. While attending school, he also founded his first business, *Rush Link Computers LLC*, on January 18, 2004. Over the next decade, Fred worked in the IT field, gaining valuable technical expertise. However, his passion for video production never waned, and he eventually decided to return to his first love-film and media. He combined his IT skills with his filmmaking expertise, becoming a versatile force in the entertainment industry.
In 2012, Fred got his first significant break in video production while working on the set of a music video for the artist Philly Chase. The video for the single *White Noise* was directed by Kevin Allen and produced by Fred and his friend Jason Curtis, who managed Philly Chase. Fred not only worked behind the scenes as a producer but also made a cameo appearance in the video, playing bass guitar on stage with the artist. This experience reignited Fred's passion for video production, and he began seeking out advice from industry professionals to continue honing his craft.
In 2014, Fred took the next step in his career by founding *King Rush Productions LLC* on October 10. Under this new company, he wrote and directed his first music video, *Diamonds*, which featured up-and-coming hip-hop artist Chris Crosland. The video garnered over 30,000 views and featured a special guest appearance from Philadelphia rapper Quilly (formerly Quilly Millz), who had been compared to the iconic Meek Mill. Fred's music video marked the beginning of a successful career in the film and music video production industry, blending his technical skills with his creative vision.
