Biography

John has been working in casting since 1989; firstly as an assistant at the National Theatre. Having trained in Stage Management at LAMDA and working as an agent's assistant,

Leaving the NT to go freelance in 1992 he worked for three years with the majority of the UK's theatre companies. ETT, Oxford Stage Company, Chichester Festival, The Almeida, The Royal Court, The Young Vic and was resident casting director at The Gate and Soho Theatre. Joining The Royal Shakespeare Company as Deputy Head of Casting in 1995 he became Head of Casting in 1999 for the next five years.

Independent film and television work includes many episodes of The Bill and the Projector/Channel 4 film of Twelfth Night featuring Parminder Nagra and Chewitel Ejiofor.

With the BBC in house Casting Department since 2006 he has been responsible for casting 137 episodes of Doctors and 200+ episodes of Holby City. In addition to this he cast series XX of Silent Witness, and episodes of Father Brown, WPC56, The Coroner + Shakespeare and Hathaway and David Walliams' Mr Stink, Gangsta Granny, The Boy in the Dress, Billionaire Boy and Grandpa's Great Escape

He has been a member of The Casting Directors Guild for 20 years serving as a committee member on several occasions including two years as Chair. He frequently participates in workshops with Drama Schools and Arts Organisations.
