- Gary Stephen Thomas is a writer director from London, UK. His brand is optimistic underdogs, in the romcom feature space, but also comedy drama TV. He's also a playwright, and recently wrote & produced a musical based on William Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor with the songs of no1 hit maker Diane Warren, which did a mini tour in the UK. He’s made 12 short films, having secured funding from the UK’s Arts Council of over £200,000 in the last few years. This includes a film installation about being a carer for his mother who had Alzheimer’s, called Lost Memories. As a playwright, he’s written four produced plays, including a play about the Orlando Pulse gay nightclub shootings which he is adapting. A former underdog himself, he loves exploring shitty feelings in relatable stories. Growing up with a ton of people making fun of him after being born with a flat nose and cleft palate, this led to Gary staying silent for the first 17 years of his life; he now channels that into his writer’s voice, as well as his actual voice, and believes everyone can express themselves positively. He is co chair of the Writers Guild of Great Britain Film Committee.
