Berry Duane Oakley

IMDbProStarmeterSee rank
Berry Duane Oakley was born on March 30, 1973, to the late Berry Oakley (from The Allman Brothers Band) and Julia Negron.

His father had died in a road accident on November 11, 1972, when his mother was in her six month pregnancy. That same year she had lost her mother to an overdose. As a single mother in her 20s, she turned to heroin to cope with the loss, and in 1976 married Chuck Negron, the singer for Three Dog Night. Oakley's godfather is The Doors guitarist Robby Krieger.

Berry was raised with Julia and Chuck when both developed major heroin addictions. In 1977 his younger half-brother Chuckie Negron was born being already an addict because of his parents.

He first met Devon Allman, Gregg Allman's son, and Duane Betts, Dickey Betts's son, as a teenager, during The Allman Brothers Band's 1989 Dreams tour. He helped babysit Duane and Elijah Allman when he was living in LA. He'd go to Cher's house and when she would run errands, and would babysit them.

In 1991, he toured with his godfather, Robby Krieger, then with Bloodline- in a lineup including Waylon Krieger and Joe Bonamassa. Bloodline's self-titled debut launched a Top 20 single, leading to national TV appearances and support sets for Bob Dylan and B.B. King, among others. In 1996, Oakley teamed for the first time with Betts for the Oakley Krieger Band.

In 2000, he joined Blue Floyd, the super-group brainchild of Gov't Mule's bassist, the late Allen Woody. Additionally, Oakley served a stint with Betts, again, in Backbone69, and for 11 years with Negron in CNB. In 2015 he founded Butch Trucks & the Freight Train Band with the legendary, now deceased, Allman Brothers Band drummer.

On November 2018, together with Devon Allman and Duane Betts, they formed the American southern rock musical group The Allman Betts Band, and launched two albums, "Down to the River" (2019) and "Bless Your Heart" (2020).

He is married to Diana Catherine Oakley and they have 5 children: Shaun, twins James and Jessica, Declan and Teigan Oakley.
