Biography

Xosé Zapata has more than 25 years of experience as a producer, director and writer.

My productions "Minotauromaquia" and "La Casa de mi Abuela" were nominated for European Film Academy (EFA) awards in 2005 and 2006, and I have won more than four hundred national and international awards with my productions. In 2018 I release in cinemas as executive producer the feature film "Tiempo Después" by José Luis Cuerda, and as associate producer I participate in the first series of Amazon Prime and Antena 3 Studios "Pequeñas Coincidencias" by Javier Veiga.

In 2021 I release my first animated short film as director: "The Monkey", a co-production with the Portuguese animation studio "Sardinha em Lata", and co-directed by Lorenzo Degl'Innocenti, with which I won the Goya for best animated short film 2022 from the Spanish Film Academy, and I was Nominated at the Sophia Awards of the Portuguese Film Academy. This short film has participated in 120 Festivals in more than 20 countries and won more than 20 Awards.

In 2023 I release as producer "Los Demonios de Barro", an animation film by Nuno Beato, co-production with Portugal and France, Nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at the Goya Awards, and which has been selected in important festivals around the world including Annecy, and the fiction films "La Manzana de Oro" by Jaime Chavarri and "Upon Entry" by Alejandro Rojas and Juan Sebastián Vasquez.

"Upon Entry" (La Llegada) has won awards at prestigious international festivals such as Tallinn and Calcutta, and great critical acclaim, with 3 nominations at the Goya Awards and 3 nominations at the Spirit Awards.

In 2024 he premieres "Avetimología", his second animated short film as director.
