He also contributed to the school's weekly, El Vaquero, receiving several JACC student journalism awards for his work as editorial cartoonist, entertainment editor and editor-in-chief. Lauzirika later attended the renowned University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, where he wrote and directed a fully-funded 16mm sync sound film in the program's highly-competitive CNTV 480 Advanced Production Workshop; Lauzirika graduated in 1994.

Lauzirika himself occasionally serves as camera operator in his documentary interviews, thereby fostering a more intimate environment, allowing the interviewee to be more sharing on camera. Although his work has long been associated with the films of Ridley Scott, Lauzirika has also produced DVD content for the works of numerous other directors, including David Lynch, Sam Raimi, James Cameron, the Coen Brothers, Michael Bay, David Fincher, Robert Rodriguez, Marc Webb, John Badham, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Mark Romanek and the late Tony Scott.

While Lauzirika continues to produce behind-the-scenes content for films and television, he has also segued into directing his own feature projects, including the independent film "Crave," which stars Josh Lawson, Emma Lung, Edward Furlong and Ron Perlman, which went on to win the New Flesh Award for Best First Feature at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal, and Best Director (Next Wave) at Fantastic Fest in Austin.

Following "Crave," Lauzirika has been developing several directorial projects, including a feature adaptation of Philip K. Dick's futuristic drama "I Hope I Shall Arrive Soon," and an original medieval horror film entitled "The Grail."
