Biography

Director, Producer and Screenwriter G. (Giovanna) Chesler (they/them) was born in Queens, New York. Their film company G6 Pictures is named in honor of their lineage - they are the 6th Giovanna in a matrilineal line. Their films include the feature documentaries Connection / Isolation (2024), Period: The End of Menstruation (2006), comedic coming-out shorts The Pick Up (2018) and BeauteouS (2002) among other fiction, documentary, and experimental short films. G. produced Outliers and Outlaws (2024), the award-winning POV documentary Out in the Night (2014) and Co-Edited / Associate Produced Zeinabu irene Davis' African Academy Award winning documentary feature Spirits of Rebellion: Black Cinema from UCLA. G. is a Full Professor of Film at George Mason University. They write film and TV criticism with trans, feminist, queer, disability justice, and antiracist inclinations on Instagram at @G6Pix.
