- Judy was born in Hong Kong, before the Handover. Her earliest memory of watching a film was of a kung fu movie where a father receives a mysterious package containing the ear of his son, as a warning for his refusal to pay the kidnapper's ransom. The experience was intriguing, shocking, and scary. But the memory stayed with her, and has deeply influenced her desire to tell stories through film.
- Went to Toronto's Humber College, for its Interior Design program. Film studies was chosen as an elective in her 3rd year, where the first lecture discussed the Odessa Steps scene of Battleship Potemkin.
