Tapan Saha(I)

Theatre lover Tapan Sahaa wrote and directed more than 25 full length plays, then young Tapan forayed into movie making by assisting the legendary and world famous Indian film Director Ritwik Ghatak in his last two films("A River called Titas", "Arguments, Debate and a Story"). After Ghatak's untimely death which happened in Tapan's presence ,shattered him because he was very closely witnessed with his maestro's suffering and financial hardships due to making his own kind of cinema. Even Ghatak has no good place for shelter in his last life, so Tapan brought him to his own's house. Tapan was on crossroads. what to do! his young mind led him to venture into making of spicy films. His debut movie "Uplabdhi"(The Realisation) was critically acclaimed by the Bengal Films Journalist Association (BFJA,) & achieved others few awards from "Bengali Film Industries" and his journey of cinema was on and which in a span of years, he made more than 14 moives & established himself as a veteran Writer ,Producer and Director of Bengali Cinema. Also Some famous directors directed moives under Tapan's film Productions House ,kolkata. Tapan tried to spread his wings, he contacted and sent one of his Script titled "Lost Love" to Michael Philips , a four time oscar winning producer and the chairman of "Light House Productions" (Hollywood) whom Tapan regards as his Godfather in Hollywood.) . He was mesmerised by reading it and invited him to meet him .Tapan was glad and landed Los Angeles. Philips played a major role to set up Tapan's Production House (Sampoorna Entertainment World LLC) at Columbia Studio which was previously owned by Sir Charlie Chaplin .During his tenure Tapan made friends like Ashok Amritraj CEO and Chairman of "Hide Park Entertainment "(Hollywood). He was fortunate to become friendly with doyen of Hollywood Steven Spielberg. Both are still friends and share their thoughts regularly over chats and calls. Tapan signed actor Billy Zane (Titanic, Phantom fame ) as a Director for the other Producer. Though Tapan has credit of writing & directing several movies,he also introduced Mithun Chakraborty, Amzad Khan, Shatrughan Sinha,
