- Dhanraj Das is an Indian filmmaker, director, writer, and actor from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India. Working primarily in the horror, thriller, and mystery genres, Das has expressed his ambition to contribute to the growth of Jharkhand's film industry through original storytelling while promoting local talent and regional cinema.
Belonging to a Hindu Odia family, Das developed an interest in filmmaking at an early age and began writing the screenplay for his debut feature, Andheron Ka Sayya, in 2021 at the age of nine. Influenced by the suspense-driven filmmaking of Alfred Hitchcock, he developed a storytelling style centered on interconnected narratives, recurring characters, and long-form horror mythology. Despite balancing filmmaking with his school education and finding mathematics to be one of his most challenging subjects, he continued writing screenplays and developing film ideas alongside his studies.
Das made his feature-film debut with Andheron Ka Sayya (2025), serving as its writer, director, and actor. According to the production, the film was made on a reported budget of approximately US$5,800 and reportedly grossed approximately US$23,300 . The production team also stated that 25 percent of the film's earnings were donated to an orphanage charity fund. His work is characterized by psychological horror, suspense-driven storytelling, and interconnected narratives that smoothly link prequels and sequels within a shared cinematic universe. Das has stated that one of his primary goals is to showcase the potential of artists and technicians from Jharkhand while creating films that can reach audiences beyond the state. He has been nominated as the Youngest Filmmaker of Jharkhand and has gained a growing fan following, including the establishment of a fan club dedicated to his work.Although his interviews have so far been conducted offline, he continues to balance his filmmaking career with his education as a Class 9 student at AIWC Academy of Excellence, Baridih.Das has often credited his maternal grandfather, Basant Kumar Pat, with encouraging his interest in filmmaking during the writing of Andheron Ka Sayya. Pat passed away on 27 July 2024, before production of the film began. Das has described his grandfather as his greatest supporter, whose encouragement continues to inspire his work.
Fluent in Hindi, Tamil, Odia, Bengali, and English, Das enjoys rock climbing and parasailing. He resides in Bagun Nagar, Baridih, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India, and is currently developing Andheron Ka Sayya 2, continuing the interconnected story established in his debut feature. Das has stated that his long-term vision is to help establish Jharkhand as a recognized center for Indian cinema through locally rooted stories with wider national and international appeal.
