Biography

Mark Lanegan was born on November 25, 1964 in Ellensburg, Washington, USA. He was an actor and composer, known for The River Wild (1994), Singles (1992) and Small Gods (2007). He was married to Wendy Fowler and Shelley Brien. He died on February 22, 2022 in Killarney, Ireland.

Deep, gravelly voice

Was a member of The Screaming Trees, one of the first Seattle bands to sign with a major label, the group never attained the popularity of fellow Northwestern bands, from 1983 until they disbanded in 2000.

Released "Here Comes That Weird Chill" EP by The Mark Lanegan Band in December and will be releasing a solo album, "Bubblegum," in 2004.

Touring Europe with the Mark Lanegan Band to promote "Bubblegum."

The singer openly battled alcoholism and drug addiction in the 1990s and 2000s. He had two stints in rehab - once in 1996, and again in 2007.

Wrote an exceptionally unflinching and raw memoir, titled "Sing Backwards and Weep," which was released in 2020.

[on "Blues Funeral"] Generally I write on the guitar, but this one I started a few with the keyboard and a drum machine, to do something different.

[on "Blues Funeral"] They were all written right before or during the period when we recorded. Usually I have a stockpile. I still work with cassette tapes, and when I was about to start this record I went into my bag of tapes and they were all demagnetized. Wiped clean. So I didn't really have anything to start with.

There's this Danish director, Nicolas Refn [Nicolas Winding Refn], who made the Pusher trilogy, which I'm really into. In the second Pusher film there's a piece of music called Sad Disco, by Keli Hlodversson, which I particularly enjoyed.
