Alice Hazel Fleming

Biography

  • In 2020, Alice Fleming produced Back to Back Theatre, and her first feature film, SHADOW, which premiered at SXSW and went on to win the SXSW Audience Vision Awards, affirming its resonance with diverse audiences. In 2021, partnering with Australian Broadcast Corporation (ABC), Alice co-produced Back to Back's inaugural animated tv-series, FIRST RESPONDERS, co-authored and co-starring young people with disabilities as avatars of themselves. In 2022, Alice produced her first documentary, WHATEVER SCARES YOU, part of Curious Australia, a partnership between Screen Australia, Film Victoria and SBS, co-written and co-starring Breanna Deleo, following a poignant coming-of-age journey that unveils the discovery of a disability during its filming. Alongside each of Alice's projects are pathways for emerging film-makers with disabilities to receive paid and meaningful mentorship opportunities behind and in-front of the camera. Alice is now Head of Screen at Back to Back Theatre, where she is currently producing the final stages of development for a docu-fiction, co-written by Australian novelist Chloe Hooper and cinematographer Rhian Hinkley, that moves seamlessly between scripted and unscripted scenes interrogates ideas on winning, losing, ego, competition, and jealousy, underscored by the company recently receiving in the theatre world's 'Nobel', the prestigious Ibsen international award for theatre from the National Theatre of Norway. Alice graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts, part of the University of Melbourne, in 2009 with a Bachelor of Production.
