Biography

Kate Hanson is a Los Angeles-based producer and assistant director with a passion for bringing untold stories to light. Originally from North Carolina, she studied biochemistry at Wake Forest University, preparing for a career in medicine before the pandemic redirected her path. Inspired by a transformative stint teaching kindergarten, she embraced her passion for storytelling and earned her MFA in Film & Television Production from USC's School of Cinematic Arts. Her work often explores themes of recovery, identity, and mental health, as seen in her award-winning short A Fugue and her directorial debut Shattered, which premiered at Mental Filmness and was featured in awareness programs across Los Angeles. Kate recently produced a Sloan-funded film about Anthony Fauci during the height of the AIDS crisis, earning the award for Outstanding Producing at USC's First Look Film Festival. She currently works as a freelance assistant director on feature films and micro-drama series. When she's not on set, Kate can be found hiking in the Sierra wilderness or volunteering with Kitt Crusaders a local LA cat rescue shelter.
