- Circus master of Circus Knie from Switzerland; patriarch of the Knie dynasty of circus performers; world-reknowed trainer of Lippizan horses, elephants and other animals.
- First wife, Pierrette Dubois, was a former ice-skating pairs and tennis champion. The first son, Fredy Jnr., was born in 1946, and now runs the Knie circus in conjunction with his cousin Franco. Their other son, Rolf, was born in 1949.
