- Marilyn Mazur was born on January 18, 1955 in New York City, New York, USA. She was an actress and composer, known for The Gold Diggers (1983), Nikolaj og Julie (2002) and Human Flow (2017). She died on December 12, 2025 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
- In 2001, she received the prestigious Danish Jazzpar Prize and in 2004 received the Danish Edition Wilhelm Hansens Komponistpris, a prize normally handed out to classical composers.
- Received the Danish Music Publishers Honorary Prize April 29th 2025.
- The U.S. magazine Down Beat, in 1989, 1990, 1995, 1997, 1998, and 2002 selected Mazur as a "percussion-talent deserving wider recognition".
- In 1985, she was asked to participate in the Palle Mikkelborg project that would become the Miles Davis album Aura, and soon after she went on the road with Miles Davis. Afterward, she played with Gil Evans, Wayne Shorter, Jan Garbarek, and Makiko Hirabayashi.
- Her all-Scandinavian band Shamania consists of avant-garde female musicians.
