Brian Locking was nicknamed Liquorice by his schoolmates because of his fondness for the sweet and the name stuck. He made his professional debut with Terry Dene in Coventry and went on to play with such top names as Marty Wilde, Eddie Cochrane, Tommy Steele and Adam Faith. He became internationally known after he replaced Jet Harris in The Shadows.
